Before Flight 828[]

During Flight 828[]

After Flight 828[]

Adrian received a calling that led him to establish the Church of the Returned, a religion centered on the events of Flight 828. Drawing on charisma likely inherited from his preacher father, Adrian attracted many followers who believed the passengers possessed divine qualities. During one sermon, he prophesied another great miracle, which set in motion the events of "Emergency Exit".

Following the fire at the church, Adrian abandoned his leadership role and adopted a radically different belief system. He came to view the passengers as agents of the apocalypse, arguing that the callings deceived passengers into thinking they were forces for good. He cited the example of saving the doctor who delivered Grace's baby, claiming the passengers had caused the original problem by following a calling to a dangerous rocky area. He frequently invoked "signs and wonders" in reference to Matthew 24:24, which warns that "false prophets will arise from the dead to perform signs and wonders."("Course Deviation")

Two years after Grace's murder and Eden's kidnapping, Adrian secretly sheltered Angelina Meyer at his compound where several 828 passengers were living. Ben Stone discovered this arrangement and revealed it to Donovan Mitchell, who confronted Adrian. Angelina subsequently took everyone hostage using bombs planted by Erika Burness. Michaela Stone, Cal Stone, Jared Vasquez, Zeke Landon, Robert Vance, and Emmett Fischer raided the compound to rescue Ben and Eden. As the other passengers evacuated, Adrian remained behind searching for Erika, who had fled. When the bombs detonated, both Adrian and Angelina were presumed dead. Adrian survived the explosion and later found an injured Angelina on the road, choosing to help her despite everything that had happened.("Go-Around", "Squawk")

Adrian and Angelina were captured by Angelina's mother Noelle Meyer, who along with her husband had been systematically killing everyone who sheltered their daughter. Adrian managed to free Angelina, but she abandoned him to his fate. Noelle nearly drowned Adrian before Vance, Jared, and Michaela arrived to arrest her and save him.("Full Upright & Locked Position")

During the Death Date judgment, Adrian began to burn despite seeking forgiveness from those he had harmed. Eagan recognized that Adrian was fundamentally a good person and pleaded with God to take him instead, giving Adrian his mother's necklace. The sacrifice succeeded and Adrian was spared, but Eagan began burning in his place. When Eagan accepted this as deserved punishment for his selfish nature, Adrian convinced him that sacrificing his life was the most selfless act possible. This realization spared Eagan as well, and both men survived the Death Date.("Final Boarding")

A New Timeline[]

The passengers who survived the judgment discovered they had been returned to April 7, 2013, the date Flight 828 was originally scheduled to land. They realized they had been given a second chance at life. This time travel created a new timeline in which the passengers arrived on schedule, allowing them to reclaim the five and a half years they had lost. Seizing this opportunity, Adrian proposed that he and Eagan partner to found a business together, believing that Adrian's moral integrity combined with Eagan's shrewd business acumen would make them an effective team.
