"Reentry" is the second episode of the first season of Manifest. It premiered on October 1, 2018 on NBC.

Synopsis[]

The passengers from Flight 828 find themselves under government scrutiny as they struggle to resume their lives. Michaela is forced to confront the fact that Jared is married to her once-best friend, while Ben tries to help a fellow passenger reconnect with his son. Cal is approached by an obsessive stranger, as Grace and Olive disagree on whether or not to reveal a devastating secret.[src]

Plot[]

When the 828 passengers are detained and interrogated following the grounded plane's explosion, they keep silent on their shared visual and auditory hallucinations. NSA Director Vance urges them to keep this incident to themselves and has them surveilled after they are released. Passenger Kelly Taylor later reaches out to the media about her treatment by the NSA after witnessing the plane's explosion, and is murdered in her own home by an unknown assailant.

At home, Ben struggles to reconnect with his now-teenaged daughter Olive, and Grace grapples with the guilt of having taken a lover during Ben's absence. Ben starts hearing mysterious violin music and is drawn to fellow passenger Radd Campbell, whose son Adio has been imprisoned in Rikers Island. Adio claims he was framed for robbing a jewelry store he worked at, but they learn that he provided false identification and job references to work there, and has prior misdemeanors on his record. Later, Ben is led by another hallucination of Radd's music to discover that the jewelry store owner's son stole the jewelry and framed Adio. The real thief is arrested while Adio is exonerated.

When Cal is out on the street, he is accosted by a woman who sees him as a messianic figure. Oliver reveals to Ben a secret storage unit that holds all of him and Cal's pre-828 possessions, and in the process tells him that Grace found a lover while Ben was gone. Ben and Grace later reconcile and reaffirm their relationship.

Michaela needs to go through psychological evaluation before she can resume work, and slowly confronts her feelings on how flight 828 has changed her life, especially the tension between her, Lourdes, and Jared. To clear the air, she reconciles with Lourdes and returns Jared's engagement ring.
