Before Flight 828[]

TJ is a student at Astoria and goes on a vacation to Jamaica. He was initially on the same flight as the rest of the Stone family but; like Michaela, Ben, and Cal; volunteered to go on flight 828. He also shared a connection with Olive prior to the flight, ironically showing her the book "A Wrinkle in Time", and she attempted to move to 828 to be on the same flight as him. ("Black Box") Olive developed a crush on TJ during the encounter and his kindness stayed with her for the next 5 1/2 years. ("Carry On")

During Flight 828[]

In her grief, his mother commits suicide a month after the plane's disappearance. Her belongings are thrown out by her landlord, and his dorm items are discarded by the school, later to be picked up by Frannie. ("Grounded")

After Flight 828[]

TJ resumes classes at Astoria and first encounters Ben due to a Calling about being in his grave. Soon after, he feels the need to start digging near a construction site and finds the body of a girl, implying that the calling was not of him in his own grave, but the girl's. After being arrested for the girl's murder, Ben does not stop defending him. It is discovered that the reason his fingerprints were all over the victim's dorm room is because she picked up the things that were discarded after his mother's death. After the real killer is caught, he gets to have his things back, including photos of him and his mother. ("Grounded")

After all of the drama surrounding the murder is over, he becomes close with the Stone family, pursuing a relationship with Olive. Ben also tends to act like somewhat of a father to him, as he has no family left. TJ joins Olive in digging into the Death Date and how to survive it, finding a connection to Yusuv Al-Zuras and uncovering a journal full of clues.

When the Xers set fire to a nightclub, he, Olive, and Ben are trapped with Isaiah and when a rafter comes down he and Isaiah are separated from Ben and Olive, who escape. TJ is presumed to have died in the fire, leaving Olive devastated. ("Emergency Exit")

TJ was holding Olive's bracelet when they were separated, and a body is discovered holding the bracelet. After hearing chanting in a Calling, Ben and Olive perform a Buddhist ceremony to honor TJ because his mother was a Buddhist, and when he returned he held a Buddhist funeral for her. However, the Calling continues and the two find an underground railway in the Zen Center which they follow to underneath the nightclub. The Calling leads Ben and Olive to a very much alive although injured TJ. TJ is taken to the hospital where he is diagnosed with extreme dehydration, six broken ribs and a punctured lung that caused severe internal bleeding. The doctor tells Ben and Olive that TJ is very lucky that they found him as he would've died within a few more hours. TJ explains that the body found was Isaiah's as he had taken the bracelet from TJ. TJ had found his way into the tunnel because he heard the same chanting that drew Ben and Olive to him. ("Return Trip")

TJ stays at the Stone house while he recovers from his injuries, expressing survivor's guilt for being saved by the Callings when so many other people died. TJ's knowledge of Latin helps to decipher the Al-Zuras Journal amidst an extended Calling shared by Ben, Grace, Cal and TJ where a thunderstorm rages outside on an otherwise clear day. TJ becomes convinced that the storm is a consequence of the Callings saving his life because the journal states that "for every good that comes, a trial must follow" and discovers that some of Al-Zuras' men went insane trying to stop the Callings, even committing suicide. Ben realizes that TJ being so upset, off-balance and unsure of himself is because they are experiencing what happened to Al-Zuras' crew through the Calling, apparently all being driven insane. TJ tries to leave to protect Olive after reading that the Callings apparently won't ever stop. Realizing that Cal is trying to build Al-Zuras' ship, Ben and TJ help him to finish it and are transported to the real ship where they discover that Al-Zuras' "silver dragon" is actually the plane which was somehow in the same place at the same time as the ship during the same storm. Afterwards, the Calling finally ends and everyone returns to normal. TJ is embarrassed by his breakdown afterwards, but Ben thinks that TJ discovered how to beat the Death Date: "there is no way to be rid of the Voice. The only way to survive is to accept." Al-Zuras is telling them that following the Callings is the only way that they have a chance to beat the Death Date but "all other paths lead to disaster." ("Airplane Bottles")

TJ later travels to Egypt to continue his studies on the connection between 828 and Egyptian mythology. TJ eventually sends Olive an ancient papyrus with a painting depicting The Last Trial.

TJ returns from Egypt shortly before the Death Date and resumes his relationship with Olive. Along with the rest of the surviving passengers, TJ boards the restored Flight 828 where they undergo the Last Trial and beat the Death Date.

New Timeline[]

After the passengers beat the Death Date, they are given a second chance by being sent back to when 828 was supposed to land on April 7, 2013, thereby creating a new timeline. TJ hugs his mom and cries in happiness that he gets a second chance with her. While waiting for his bag, he encounters a 10 year old Olive, who has no memory of their relationship or anything from the time 828 disappeared to 2024 in the original timeline. She tells him she read his book and TJ tells her to enjoy it. He then meets Violet, a passenger from 828 that died at an earlier point but had been resurrected after the passengers beat the Death date and arrived on April 7, 2013.
