Biography[]
After Flight 828[]
When Flight 828 returns after five and a half years, Powell helps Robert Vance with his investigation into the plane and the passengers.
Powell attends Vance's memorial service and angrily orders Ben Stone to leave, blaming Ben for Vance's death. Ben enlists Powell's help in his investigation into the Major, but Powell is confronted by some of her men. ("Crosswinds")
After Ben's return from Cuba, Powell and DoD agents visit the Stone house for answers. Before leaving, Powell whispers "the truth shall set you free" to Ben. Ben later realizes that Powell was quoting the epitaph on Vance's headstone, something that only people who cared enough about him to visit his grave would know. Ben and Powell meet at the grave where Powell reveals that he's suspected for awhile that his friend and mentor is actually still alive rather than having been killed in an explosion 18 months earlier. Ben confirms it, and explains to Powell that Vance is in trouble, having been captured by the Cuban military. Ben enlists Powell's help to save their mutual friend, telling him about the discovery of the 828 Tailfin in Cuba as leverage for Powell to use with the government. Powell succeeds in getting the government to get Vance back at the expense of Vance's survival being revealed, texting Ben that he was successful. ("Deadhead", "Wingman")
Powell watches Vance's interrogation with Director Zimmer, telling her that he believes that Vance is telling the truth but it's her call. After Zimmer decides not to pursue charges against Vance, Powell welcomes him back to the NSA. However, Vance is not interested in working for the government again after what happened with the Major. Zimmer reveals that the Major was found dead in New Orleans months ago and her operation was shut down. When Vance is still reluctant to rejoin the organization, Powell offers to show him something that will change his mind and takes him to Eureka. ("Wingman")
When Jared Vasquez gets too close in his investigation into the Major's disappearance, Vance has him brought to Eureka where Powell tells Jared that the Major's body was found in a New Orleans bog months before and she was taken out by enemy spies. Vance tells Saanvi Bahl that Powell doesn't know the truth about the Major's death and neither does anyone else in the government. The information that Powell gives Jared satisfies him into dropping his investigation. ("Water Landing")
